Give One for Good Food® began in response to startling statistics on food insecurity in Maryland and Baltimore City.
Statistics from the Maryland Food Bank show:
· Marylanders miss 134 million meals every year.
· 1 in 8 Marylanders are food insecure
· Over 760,000 people in Maryland do not have enough to eat
In Baltimore City specifically, the Center for a Livable Future noted:
· 1 in 4 residents live in a food desert, meaning that they do not have reliable access to fresh, healthy food.
The private sector can play a huge role in helping to solve these issues by giving back to the community and supporting the nonprofit organizations that are working on the ground to create a healthier, more equitable food system.
