PRESS RELEASE: Give One for Good Food $8,000 Donation

Give One for Good Food® Donates to TasteWise Kids and Crossroads Community Food Network

 Maryland-based charitable giving program donated $8,000 to Baltimore and DC organizations improving the local food system

Timonium, Maryland (August 31, 2017) – Give One for Good Food®, a Baltimore-based network that connects mission-driven businesses to nonprofit organizations leading the way towards a healthier, more equitable food system, facilitated an $8,000 donation to two esteemed local organizations: TasteWise Kids and Crossroads Community Food Network.

Michele Tsucalas, founder of Michele’s Granola, created Give One for Good Food® in 2013 to donate 1% of her business’s annual sales to organizations improving access to healthy food and providing nutrition education. She and her team are working to expand it into a membership network where other likeminded businesses can easily connect with and direct financial support to such organizations.

TasteWise Kids provides discovery-based programming to more than 3,000 kids annually in the Baltimore region, teaching them where their food comes from and the value of fresh food, with regards to nutrition and health, farming and the environment, career opportunities, etc. The donation facilitated by Give One for Good Food® supported Farm to Chef, the organization’s largest fundraiser for their signature program, Days of Taste.

The donation to Crossroads Community Food Network of Takoma/Langley Crossroads, Maryland supports the establishment of a community kitchen to provide much needed food preparation space for the organization's Microenterprise Training Program; the kitchen will also serve the community in food recovery efforts and will offer cooking and nutrition classes. Says Crossroads Executive Director Christie Balch, “Our partnership with Give One for Good Food® has allowed us to provide business training to low-income food entrepreneurs and help them overcome some of the key barriers to getting their businesses off the ground. In this way, Give One for Good Food® is truly helping us build a more equitable local food system and we're grateful for their generous support!”

Business members who join the Give One network and pledge to donate 1% of revenues have access to an easy-to-implement corporate giving strategy, and other benefits such as increased visibility, branding and tax deductions. See more on business membership.
